Jimmy Page bought the Boathouse in
Pangbourne in 1967 when he was just 23 years of age and played
as the lead guitarist in the band The Yardbirds.
It was only a year later when Jimmy decided that he wanted to
split from the band and form a new one of his own.
It was later in 1968 when he was introduced to Robert Plant,
an up and coming vocalist from the Midlands. After hearing Robert
sing at the Birmingham Teacher Training College, Jimmy later
invited him to stay at the Boathouse to discuss his proposals
for the new band.

Soon after, John Bonham and John Paul Jones too joined and the
four of them spent time at the Boathouse jamming and preparing
for gigs.
Although they performed initially under the old Yardbirds
name, it wasn't long before Jimmy had come up with a new name
for the band.
This would be
Led Zeppelin and this would be the name of the band that
would take the world by storm over the next decade, regularly
breaking tour attendance and album record sales, worldwide.
